Description:

Calicheamicin gamma1 is a cytotoxic agent that exhibits potent antitumor activity. It is a peptide antibiotic derived from the Actinomyces species of bacteria. Calicheamicin gamma1 inhibits the production of ATP, which is required for DNA synthesis and protein synthesis. This agent binds to the mcl-1 protein, which is involved in the suppression of apoptosis, leading to cell death by apoptosis induction. Calicheamicin gamma1 has also been shown to inhibit ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter proteins at high concentrations and has been used as an experimental model for autoimmune diseases such as lupus erythematosus.
