Description

3-Chloro-1-methoxy-2-propanol is a hydrogen peroxide precursor that is used in the chemical industry. It is an industrial solvent and a byproduct of the chlorine industry. 3-Chloro-1-methoxy-2-propanol can be quantitated using gas chromatography with electron capture detection or x-ray fluorescence. It is also used as a reactive agent in epoxy resins and polymers, as well as being injected into cells to study their function. The chemical reacts with glycidyl to form epichlorohydrin, which is then reacted with propylene oxide to form epoxy resins and polymers. 3-Chloro-1-methoxy-2-propanol can be used in the synthesis of chloropropane, which is an industrial solvent that was banned due to its toxicity.
