Chlorobis(cyclooctene)iridium(I)dimer (CBI-DIM) is a compound that contains the iridium metal center. It was synthesized by reacting ammonium nitrate with chlorobis(cyclooctene), which is an insoluble compound. The structure of CBI-DIM was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy, and its electronic spectra were observed using photoelectron spectroscopy. This compound is hypothesized to be a catalytic, as it contains an ammonium group and a ligand. CBI-DIM can be used in organic synthesis reactions, such as hydrosilylation, to form cyclic compounds.
