Ceftobiprole medocaril is a novel antimicrobial agent that belongs to the group of cephalosporin antibiotics. It is active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including those that are resistant to other antibiotics. Ceftobiprole medocaril inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the penicillin-binding protein (PBP) in the bacterial cell wall, which prevents cell wall synthesis and leads to cell death. Ceftobiprole medocaril has been shown to be safe and effective for treating tissue infections caused by susceptible strains of Enterococcus faecalis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, or Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as well as urinary tract infections caused by Enterococcus faecalis or Escherichia coli. Ceftobiprole medocaril has also been shown to inhibit the activity of certain enzymes such as aminoglycosides and macrolides
