Cedar oil is a fatty acid that is obtained from the bark of cedar trees. It has been shown to have a beneficial effect on locomotor activity in pentobarbital-treated mice, and enhances chitosan gel wound healing in rats. Cedar oil also inhibits the growth of human pathogens and other microorganisms, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Candida albicans. This oil can be used in histochemical staining experiments to identify skin cells by reacting with glycol ethers. In addition, cedar oil has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect on allergic symptoms.
