Product Information
- Calmodulins
Calmodulin is a protein that binds to and regulates the activity of many enzymes, including target enzymes. It has been shown to bind to DNA and regulate transcription. Calmodulin can also bind to the cytosolic calcium ion (Ca2+) and regulate its activity by controlling intracellular levels of this ion. The binding of calmodulin to Ca2+ in the cell allows for changes in membrane potential, which leads to neuronal death. Calmodulin is also involved in the regulation of enzyme activities, such as those involved in cellular respiration and detoxification reactions. This protein has been implicated in structural heart disease because it is an intracellular target for pharmacological agents that are used for treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
