Cloxacillin benzathine is an experimental drug that belongs to the class of penicillins. Cloxacillin benzathine has been shown to have antibacterial efficacy against viruses, bacteria, and fungi. The drug binds to the bacterial cell wall by competitive inhibition and inhibits protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes in the cell's cytoplasm. It also inhibits viral DNA replication by binding to viral RNA polymerase. Cloxacillin benzathine has been shown to be effective in treating subclinical mastitis in cows. This drug also has a number of uses in human medicine and can be used as an antimicrobial agent or as a diagnostic tool for identifying pathogens. Cloxacillin benzathine may also be used as a solid dispersion or as an anti-inflammatory agent due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
