Tributyltetradecylphosphonium chloride is a quaternary ammonium compound that acts as an antimicrobial agent, biocide, and disinfectant. It is used in water treatment to reduce the levels of fatty acids and sodium carbonate. Tributyltetradecylphosphonium chloride has been shown to have strong activity against Gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis. Tributyltetradecylphosphonium chloride has also shown to be effective against Gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This compound is not active against yeast or mold.
