Product Information
- Butanoic Acid, Chloromethyl Ester
- Chloromethyl Butanoate
Chloromethyl butyrate (CMB) is an inorganic acid that is widely used as a reactant for the synthesis of organic substances. It reacts with hydrochloric acid to form chloromethyl chloroformate, which then reacts with a nucleophile such as water to form a hydroxyl group. CMB has been shown to inhibit the growth of prostate cancer cells and myeloid leukemia cells. It has also been shown to have antibacterial properties against bacterial strains that are resistant to commonly used antibiotics, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. CMB also inhibits HIV infection by inhibiting reverse transcriptase, an enzyme required for viral replication.
