Description:3-Chloro-2,2-bis(chloromethyl)propan-1-ol (3CBP) is an oxetane solvent that is used as a homogeneous catalyst. It is used in the production of organic acids, such as monocarboxylic acid and polycarboxylic acid, by reacting with hydrogen chloride. 3CBP can also be used as an extractant to remove ions from aqueous solutions. 3CBP reacts with these ions to form soluble complexes that are soluble in organic solvents. This process is called ion exchange chromatography. The reaction of 3CBP with chloride produces chlorobenzene and hydrogen chloride gas, which are distilled off during the process. 3CBP can be diluted with n-dimethylformamide or other suitable diluent before use.
