Prothioconazole is a fungicide that inhibits the growth of fungi by interfering with ergosterol synthesis. It has been shown to have a synergistic effect in vitro with other fungicides such as difenoconazole and cyproconazole, and also with herbicides such as glyphosate, paraquat, and mesotrione. Prothioconazole can be used in vitro for the detection of inhibitors that bind to enzymes such as β-glucosidase, α-mannosidase, α-galactosidase, or α-arabinofuranosidase. The inhibition of these enzymes may be due to hydrogen bonding interactions between prothioconazole and the enzyme active site.
