All-trans-Canthaxanthin is a carotenoid that has been used as an experimental model to study the biological properties of antioxidants. It has been shown to have antioxidant activity and inhibit lipid peroxidation in vitro. All-trans-Canthaxanthin is a potent antioxidant and can prevent cellular damage by trapping reactive oxygen species, such as hydrogen peroxide, before they cause oxidative stress. This compound has also been shown to reduce mitochondrial membrane potential in cells. The optimum concentration for all-trans-canthaxanthin is between 0.1 and 1 µM.
