This agent also inhibits bacterial growth, and has been shown to have anti-influenza virus activity in vitro. Chlorin-e6-trimethyl ester is absorbed through the cornea and is used as an ophthalmic agent. In addition, this compound has been shown to be effective against cancerous tissues in vivo.
