Campestanol is a naturally occurring fatty acid that has been shown to reduce low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels in humans. Campestanol lowers low-density lipoprotein cholesterol by inhibiting the enzyme hydroxylase, which converts LDL into oxidized LDL. Campestanol also affects the expression of genes involved in the development of atherosclerotic lesions and reduces obesity. This compound is found in a variety of foods, including animal fat, vegetable oils, and some nuts. Campestanol is an analytical method for measuring particle size with an accuracy of ±0.5 microns or better.
