Catharanthine tartrate is a fluorescent probe that emits light in the ultraviolet region. It can be used to detect hydrogen bonds and has been successfully applied to the determination of protein binding constants. Catharanthine tartrate is also used as a fluorescence indicator for industrial purposes and as a pharmacopoeia reagent. It is soluble in water, alcohols, ethers, chloroform, benzene, and other organic solvents. The chemical formula for catharanthine tartrate is C8H10N4O2·C4H6O4·HCl. The molecular weight for this compound is 258.14 g/mol.
