Description:Cefotiam dihydrochloride is a semisynthetic antibiotic that belongs to the class of cephalosporin antibiotics. It inhibits bacterial growth by binding to penicillin-binding proteins and blocking cell wall synthesis. Cefotiam has been shown to be effective against Gram-positive bacteria, such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, and Clostridium perfringens. This drug is used in the treatment of infectious diseases caused by Gram-positive bacteria, including meningitis, endocarditis, osteomyelitis, and peritonitis. The intravenous injection of cefotiam has been shown to be safe and well tolerated in adults with septicemia or bacteremia. Cefotiam is excreted unchanged in the urine.
