Cephalotaxine is a myelogenous drug that has been shown to inhibit the mitochondrial membrane potential and induce apoptosis in mouse tumor cells. It also inhibits signal pathways in the mitochondria, such as those activated by mcl-1 protein, which are involved in cell survival. Cephalotaxine is effective against various cancers, including hematologic malignancies, breast cancer, and leukemia. This drug has been shown to be safe for use in risk groups such as pregnant women and children. Cephalotaxine has been shown to have a high chemical stability profile and can be used with other chemotherapeutic drugs like dasatinib or other chemical inhibitors of BCR-ABL kinase to increase their efficacy.
