Description:

Ceramide is a type of lipid that belongs to the group of fatty acids. It is a component of cell membranes that regulates cellular physiology, such as nutrient transport and signaling pathways. Ceramide has been shown to activate the protein kinase C pathway, which is important for cell signaling and regulation. The ph optimum of ceramide is 7.0-8.5. Too high or too low a ph can result in decreased activity. Ceramide also interacts with other lipids such as cholesterol and sphingolipids to form complex lipids called sphingomyelin, which are important for maintaining mitochondrial membrane potential and apoptosis pathway in cells. Ceramide also binds to proteins such as nuclear receptors, transcriptional regulators, and cytoskeletal proteins, which mediate its effects on cells.
