2-Chloro-1,3,2-dioxaphospholane is a molecule that reacts with hydrochloric acid to form 2-chloro-1,3,2-dioxaphosphinanephosphonic acid. This chemical compound can be used in the synthesis of other phosphonic acids and has shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro. 2CDPP inhibits tumor growth by binding to the divalent metal ions found in the active site of enzymes such as protein kinase C and also by inhibiting the synthesis of DNA. The low energy vibrational spectrum of this molecule is due to its hydroxyl group and methoxy groups. The reaction mechanism for 2CDPP is shown below:
chem>HCl + 2-chloro-1,3,2-dioxaphospholane ->HClO4 + 2-(chloromethoxy)propionic acid/chem>
