4-Chloro-2,6-dimethoxypyrimidine is a chemical compound that is used in the synthesis of other pyrimidines. It is synthesized by the reaction of 4-chloro-2,6-dimethoxybenzaldehyde with trimethyltin chloride. The key steps in this synthesis are an enolate formation and an alkylation. This compound was also found in the tubercle bacillus M. tuberculosis and has been shown to be effective against tuberculosis. 4-Chloro-2,6-dimethoxypyrimidine has also been reported to be a potential antihypertensive agent due to its ability to inhibit angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE).
