It is synthesized by reacting aniline with sodium nitrite in the presence of hydrochloric acid, followed by chlorination with phosphorus trichloride. 2-Chloro-5-nitroanisole is a nucleophilic compound with antibacterial activity that can be used to treat tuberculosis and schistosomiasis.
