Description:L-Citronellol is a terpene, which is the major component of citronella oil, lemon grass oil, and verbena oil. L-Citronellol is cytotoxic to cancer cells in vitro. It also has been shown to have a protective effect against benzoate and ophiobolin-induced cell death. L-Citronellol's cytotoxicity may be due to its ability to inhibit fatty acid synthesis by binding to the cytochrome P450 enzyme system or its inhibition of protein synthesis by binding to ribosomal proteins.
