Description:Clobetasol 17-propionate is a synthetic, long-acting corticosteroid that has been used in the treatment of a variety of autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. It is an ester prodrug of clobetasol, which is converted to its active form, clobetasol propionate (CPA), in vivo. Clobetasol 17-propionate has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects and inhibit the progression of skin cancer. Antimicrobial agents are also known to cause changes in the skin's barrier function by increasing transepidermal water loss and decreasing stratum corneum hydration. Chronic oral administration of clobetasol 17-propionate may result in accumulation of the drug in the liver, kidneys, and heart. !-- END QUOTE -->
