Description:18-Crown-6 is a crown ether with a high affinity for alkali metal cations. It is used as a reagent in titration calorimetry and optical sensors. 18-Crown-6 has been shown to have a redox potential of -0.7 volts, which makes it an excellent reducing agent and allows the compound to be used as an electron donor or acceptor in chemical reactions. 18-Crown-6 has been shown to form stable complexes with styryl dyes, which can be used for fluorescent sensing in model systems. 18-Crown-6 also forms hydrogen bonding interactions with human serum proteins, which are important for its conformational properties.
