Cyclosporine is a drug that belongs to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It is used as an immunosuppressant, most commonly in organ transplantations. Cyclosporine has been shown to bind to human MDR1 and inhibit its activity. This binding prevents the efflux of cyclosporin from cells, thereby increasing its concentration in tissues, which leads to the suppression of immune responses. Cyclosporine has also been shown to have a protective effect on ischemic preconditioning, which occurs when a cell is briefly deprived of oxygen and then given an increased level of oxygen. This effect may be due to cyclosporine's ability to inhibit toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) signaling, which can lead to inflammation and tissue injury. Cyclosporin binds with high specificity and affinity to DNA at the CpG sites found in promoters of genes such as interleukin 2 (IL2), IL
