5-Chloro-2-fluoroaniline is an impurity of 2,4-dichlorophenol. It can be synthesized by reacting diphenylphosphoryl azide with chlorine, or by reacting anilines with hydrochloric acid and acetyl chloride. 5-Chloro-2-fluoroaniline has been used to produce a soluble epoxide which has been shown to be an inhibitor of the enzyme epoxide hydrolase. This reaction also produces acetone and fluorine as a byproducts.
