1-Chlorotetradecane is a myristoylated antimicrobial peptide that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in vitro. 1-Chlorotetradecane has shown efficacy against a number of bacterial strains, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, but not against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This compound has also been shown to have thermal expansion properties and may be used for wastewater treatment and as an analytical tool for fatty acid analysis. The chlorinated group on this molecule makes it susceptible to hydrolysis by hydrochloric acid or dimethyl fumarate, making it an acidic compound.
