Choline hydroxide is a choline salt that is used in the treatment of hepatic steatosis and metabolic disorders. Choline hydroxide is also a component of polymers, which are important for synthesis of phospholipids and cell membranes. It has been shown to have electrochemical properties and can be used as a model system to study enzyme activities. Choline hydroxide has been shown to be effective in preventing atherosclerotic lesions and reducing the risk of liver cancer in animal studies. This compound also has biological properties, such as being a precursor for acetylcholine, an important neurotransmitter for nerve transmission.
