(+/-)-N-Cyano-N'-4-pyridinyl-N'-(1,2,2-trimethylpropyl)guanidine monohydrate has also been shown to inhibit mitochondrial membrane potential and cause a decrease in intracellular ATP levels. This drug is not active against whole cells or isolated mitochondria.
