Description:

Chlorophyll B is a chlorophyll molecule that has been modified by the attachment of a redox-active polymer. This modification allows for the study of the effects of radiation on the DNA template. The biocompatible polymer is attached to the chlorophyll using an enzyme, which is then covalently bound to a polyethylene glycol (PEG) chain. The resulting PEG-chlorophyll conjugate can be used as an analytical probe for studying the effects of radiation on DNA. Chlorophyll B has been shown to bind to both ds and ss DNA templates, but not RNA or protein templates. It also binds specifically to double-stranded DNA with a sequence complementary to the polymerase binding site. Chlorophyll B has been shown to have no acute toxicities in mice and rats, and it does not bind non-specifically to other biomolecules such as proteins or carbohydrates in vitro.
