2-Chloro-3-methylquinoline is a quinoline derivative with antibacterial activity. This compound also inhibits allylic oxidation, which is an important process in cellular metabolism. 2-Chloro-3-methylquinoline has been shown to inhibit terminal alkynes, which are involved in the bacterial cell wall synthesis and protein synthesis of tuberculosis. The molecular electrostatic potential of 2-chloro-3-methylquinoline is similar to that of chloride ions, which are essential for the functioning of the dna gyrase enzyme.
