Product Information
Cerium(III) sulfate octahydrate is a water-soluble salt that is used in analytical chemistry as an analog for cerium(IV) sulfate, which has been shown to be difficult to produce. This compound is prepared by reacting cerium(III) nitrate with sulfuric acid and then adding water. The hydroxyl group on the surface of the particle increases the water permeability of this compound and allows it to react with other compounds. The particle size of this compound can be controlled by adjusting the reaction time or temperature. The resulting product can be used as a catalyst in fabricating polymers and plastics, or as an activator in analytical methods such as UV absorption. Cerium(III) sulfate octahydrate also reacts with amines to form a complex molecule that is resistant to hydrolysis.
