L-a-Cyclohexylglycine is an efficient, general method for the preparation of peptide aldehydes. It is a serine protease inhibitor that binds to thrombin and prevents it from converting fibrinogen into fibrin. L-a-Cyclohexylglycine has been shown to inhibit polymerization of fibrinogen and factor XIII, as well as the formation of thrombin, which is important for blood clotting. L-a-Cyclohexylglycine also inhibits hepatitis C virus (HCV) replication in vitro by binding to the HCV NS3 helicase protein. This compound has been shown to be able to inhibit HIV-1 protease activity and may have potential use as an antiviral agent.
