2H-Chromene-3-carbaldehyde is an antibacterial agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the enzyme riboflavin kinase, which is essential for the synthesis of flavin mononucleotide (FMN). 2H-Chromene-3-carbaldehyde has been shown to have antidiabetic activity and to inhibit renal cell proliferation. It also has antimycobacterial activity, inhibiting the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex. This compound has a ruthenium complex that can be used as a photosensitizer in photodynamic therapy (PDT) against tumors.
2H-Chromene-3-carbaldehyde also inhibits kidney cells, preventing them from synthesizing DNA and RNA.
