- Croceine Scarlet 7B
Crocein Scarlet 7B is a costimulatory molecule that is used in the preparation of bacterial samples. It is a dye that changes color from red to purple when it comes into contact with acidic solutions. Crocein Scarlet 7B has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against bacteria, such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, and fungi. The gene product of crocein is covalently attached to the surface of an acid-sensitive protein and is not released until the pH drops below 3.0. The molecule can be broken down by amido or amino acids. This product has been shown to enhance the detection of bacterial cells in water samples, which may be due to its ability to react with DNA at low concentrations and low pH values.
