Description:6-Chloronicotinamide is an amide that is used in the preparation of benzalkonium chloride. It is a colorless to light yellow crystalline powder with a molecular weight of 130.6 and an empirical formula of C9H7ClN2O2. 6-Chloronicotinamide has been shown to be effective in the treatment of allergic reactions, but it can also cause side effects such as skin rash and itching when applied topically. This compound reacts with proton donors, such as water, alcohols, and thiols, to form a disulfide bond. 6-Chloronicotinamide has been used for the synthesis of amides using 3-methoxyphenylacetic acid and pyridoxine hydrochloride as starting materials. The chemical structure for this compound is 6-aminonicotinic acid with a nitrogen atom connected to a benzene ring by a double bond and two carbon atoms on either side
