The synthesis of this compound is achieved through high concentrations of nitrobenzene in a solid phase synthesis. 2-Chloro-3-nitrobenzoic acid is obtained in an isolated yield, typically greater than 90%. This compound dissolves readily in organic solvents such as ethyl acetate, ether, and chloroform.
