Description:
5-Cyano-2-methylpyridine is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme, nitric oxide synthase (NOS). It binds to the active site and blocks the substrate binding site. This compound also has been shown to inhibit other enzymes, including acetylcholinesterase, phosphodiesterase, and butyrylcholinesterase. 5-Cyano-2-methylpyridine inhibits metabolic stability by interacting with the active site of the enzyme, which leads to an increased rate of metabolism. This drug also has affinity for backbones that have a pyrazolo ring in their structure. 5-Cyano-2-methylpyridine interacts with these backbones by inhibiting their synthesis without affecting protein synthesis or DNA replication.
