5-Chlorovaleric acid methyl ester (5CVAME) is an immunosorbent that binds to the carbonyl, enolate and receptor binding sites on bilayers. It has been shown to have a high affinity for these sites and can be used in immunoassays to detect carbonyls. 5CVAME has also been shown to have a high affinity for the hydrophobic regions of membranes, which may be due to its alkylation properties. 5CVAME is an ion-pair reagent that enhances the extraction of hydrophobic analytes. This compound is stable in liquid phase and can be used in chromatographic methods.
