It can be used to treat malonic acidosis, which is a metabolic disorder caused by the accumulation of malonic acid. This substance has been shown to inhibit the enzyme activities of malonyl-CoA decarboxylase and acetyl-CoA carboxylase and decrease the levels of malonyl-CoA in cells. 1,1-Cyclopropanedicarboxylic acid may also be a growth factor for some organisms and can be used as a quinoline derivative.
