Description:

4-Chloro-3-pyridinecarboxylic acid is a nucleophilic compound that is structurally related to vitamin B3. It can be used as an inhibitor of the enzyme 6-aminonicotinic acid dehydrogenase, which is involved in the catabolism of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD). 4-Chloro-3-pyridinecarboxylic acid has been shown to decrease NAD levels and increase oxidative stress in rats with acute kidney injury. This compound also inhibits sirtuin, which is a class III histone deacetylase. Sirtuins are involved in the regulation of various biochemical pathways such as DNA repair and glycolysis. 4-Chloro-3-pyridinecarboxylic acid can coordinate with metal ions to form oxidation products, including phenylacetonitrile and amide derivatives.
