Product Information
- (8,8'-Diapocarotene-8,8'-dialCrocetin dialdehyde
Crocetindial is a polyene antibiotic that inhibits the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. It also has shown to have an ability to inhibit the replication of recombinant viruses in tissue culture. Crocetindial is used in vitro as a health care product, and it has shown biological properties on cells in culture. Crocetindial can be used for the treatment of nervous system diseases such as Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and AIDS dementia complex. It binds to DNA at specific sequences and blocks its transcription into RNA by inhibiting the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Crocetindial prevents the formation of new DNA strands by binding to the hydroxyl group at the end of a growing strand. The drug also reacts with a carbonyl group on the outermost layer of bacterial cell walls, which prevents cross-linking reactions. This leads to inhibition of bacterial growth and death.
