1,4-Cyclohexadiene (stabilized with BHT) is a biologically active molecule that is used in organic synthesis. It is an organic compound that exists as two enantiomers, cis and trans. The cis form of 1,4-cyclohexadiene has been shown to be a ligand for the 2-adrenergic receptor and has been implicated in the biological properties of this receptor. The trans form of 1,4-cyclohexadiene has been shown to react with malonic acid in an asymmetric synthesis reaction to produce racemic 1,4-cyclohexadiene.
