3-Chloro-2-fluorobenzoic acid is a reagent that is used in the industrial production of other chemicals. It is a multistep reaction solution that starts with the oxidation of 3-chlorobenzoic acid to 3,4-dichlorobenzoyl chloride. This intermediate product is then reacted with sodium fluoride and hydrochloric acid to produce 3,4-dichlorofluorobenzoic acid. The final compound can be used as an anti-inflammatory agent. 3,4-Dichlorofluorobenzoic acid reacts with voltage-gated sodium channels in the cell membrane by binding to the acidic amino acids on the surface of the channel and blocking sodium ion flow through it.
