It has been shown to have tuberculostatic activity in mice, inhibiting the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis by binding to the pyrazole ring of mycolic acid and blocking the formation of a hydrogen bond. 2-Cyanoethylhydrazine also inhibits bacterial growth by binding to methyl ketones and other compounds that are expressed by Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
