Description

Costus lactone is a natural compound that has been found to have potent anti-inflammatory properties. It is a diterpene ester and has been shown to have minimal toxicity in animal studies. Costulactone binds to the Bcl-2 protein, which prevents it from forming complexes with other proteins and inhibits the apoptosis pathway. It also inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interleukin-1 (IL-1). Recent research has shown that costus lactone can act as an inhibitor of alcohol dehydrogenase, which may contribute to its anti-inflammatory properties.
