2-Chloro-3-fluorobenzaldehyde is a monovalent, alkenyl, heteroatom containing compound that is a desaturase inhibitor. It binds to the active site of the enzyme stearoyl-coa desaturase and inhibits its activity. The chain length of this chemical is between 1 and 6 carbon atoms. 2-Chloro-3-fluorobenzaldehyde has been shown to inhibit fatty acid synthesis in test tube experiments. Halogenated derivatives of this compound have also been shown to be radical scavengers and can be used for the prevention of lipid peroxidation in vivo.
