Cirsimaritin is a bioactive phenolic compound found in the spice turmeric (Curcuma aromatica). It has been shown to have antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. Cirsimaritin exhibits inhibitory properties against viral replication by inhibiting the enzyme activities of RNA polymerase, DNA polymerase, and reverse transcriptase. The extract also inhibits the proliferation of tumor cells by interfering with intracellular Ca2+ levels. Cirsimaritin can be used as an adjuvant in natural products such as Etoac extract that are used for treatment of infectious diseases such as HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria. This compound is water soluble and can be extracted using analytical methods such as HPLC or GCMS.
