Description

Cucurbitacin E is a natural compound that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-tumour activities. It induces autophagy in HL-60 cells and is able to induce neuronal death. Cucurbitacin E has also been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In addition, cucurbitacin E was found to inhibit the proliferation of T-cell lymphoma cells and squamous carcinoma cells, which suggests that it may be a potential chemotherapeutic agent for use in cancer treatment. Cucurbitacin E also inhibits P-glycoprotein substrate activity, making it a good candidate for chemotherapeutics with low toxicity levels.
