Description:

5-Chloro-2-methylanisole (5CMA) is an organic compound that is used as a precursor in the production of phenanthrenes. It undergoes a cyclization reaction to produce 5-chloro-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran, a key intermediate in the synthesis of phenanthrene. A magnesium salt is required for this reaction to occur. 5CMA also has antimicrobial properties and can be used as a biocide.
